Poor old Luke has really been through the wars.
He lost his arm during a heated father-son moment and was shown in the latest Last Jedi trailers being buried under burning buildings as his metal arm scrabbles up through the wreckage.
Now Rian Johnson has revealed a truly disturbing storyline.
With just over two weeks to go until Episode 8 hits cinemas, will fans really see their favourite hero blinded?
Johnson made the shock revelation to Vanity Fair in the new Star Wars January issue.
He said: “Did I ever tell you that early on when I was trying to figure out the story for this (The Last Jedi), I had a brief idea I was chasing where I was like, ‘What if Luke is blind?’
“‘What if he’s, like, the blind samurai?’”
Star Wars fans will know that a very similar-sounding character did indeed pop up in Rogue One. Johnson’s idea, however, predates the creation of Donnie Yen’s blind Chirrut Imwe in the Star Wars Anthology spin-off.
In the end, Johnson ditched the idea. Mark Hamill, unsurprisingly, loved the comic potential in it.
He suggested they could have ended The Force Awakens with Rey crying: “Luke, not too close to the cliff!”
Mark Hamill has also been speaking to may outlets as the build-up reaches its crescenedo.
He also continues to have fun on social media. A recent post revealed he was “still angry” about one traumatic Luke Skywalker scene from The Empire Strikes Back.
It’s looking very likely Luke, at least, will be facing plenty more such moments in Episode 8.
STAR WARS THE LAST JEDI IS OUT ON DECEMBER 14
