Kenobi or Skywalker? Palpatine or Jinn? Midichlorian Force birth or clone?
The speculation over one little girl’s parentage has consumed Star wars fans for over two years.
With The Last Jedi almost here, the answer is within our reach. Daisy Ridley originally said she thought the identity of her character’s parents was “obvious” but later she said that she didn’t think Rey’s parents were important to the main story.
Did Star Wars Battlefront 2 just introduce fans to the mother and father of the potential saviour of the galaxy?
Fans have been pouring over all the advance information about the new EA game, which is released this Friday.
A new sequence of non-battle scenes is littered with clues and heavy references to Jakku, “fatherhood”, “Daughter” and Luke Skywalker. Even Kylo Ren has soemting to say on the matter.
Are Imperial defectors Del Meeko and Iden Versio really Rey’s parents?
Star Wars Youtube channel Mike Zeroh has pulled together a series of clues.
He says: “This is a huge source of canon material and the end of the Battlefront 2 campaign is essentially the prequel for The Force Awakens.”
The footage shows Del Meeko and Luke Skywalker first meet in a powerful scene where Luke saves him using his lightsaber to cauterise a wound.
Afterward Luke says: “It seems the Force has brought us together.”
Del Meeko and Iden Versio start their romance on Jakku. The same planet Rey is later abandoned on.
The engineer and the daughter of Admiral Garrick Versio were both part of an elite Imperial corps, the Inferno Squad, headed up by Iden, herself.
They have a child and then betray the Empire and the mysterious reason seems to revolve around this child – a daughter. Although Del Meeko dies on the planet Pillio after giving Kylo Ren the key to finding the map to Luke, if this theory pans out Rey could still have one loving parent somewhere out there.
In yet another clue, Kylo Ren plunders Meeko’s mind and says this about Iden: “She ruined you. You think she changed you, but she made you a traitor. She made you weak. You think your daughter changed you…”
In the same scene from the game Gideon Hask confronts his former Imperial colleague and angrily accuses him of betraying the Empire for the following reason: ”You traded in your weapon for what? Fatherhood?”
Meeko warns Hask not to pursue his family because “she” is dangerous. Does he mean Iden or their (potentialy powerful Jedi) daughter?
This is an awful lot of talk about fatherhood and a daughter in a major key prequel story to The Force Awakens.
It also provides links to Luke and to Jakku. It could even be another reason why Kylo Ren is already aware of Rey, since we know he recognises who “the girl” is during their encounter in The Force Awakens.
Nobody will know until December but at least this makes a change from the perdictable family trees bandied about so far. After all, everyone knows how much Star Wars likes to throw a real curveball in every now and then…
