In interview clips from the first movie, 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey, Johnson opened up on her “bizarre” tryout, which ended up catapulting her to stardom.
Her performances have frequently been among the best-reviewed aspects of the films, so it’s safe to say bosses made the right call by casting her.
“It was bizarre to just be in pseudo intimate situations with complete strangers who are so, so, so nervous,” she told MTV. “So I mean, it’s really uncomfortable.
“Doing any audition at all is really uncomfortable.”
On her “chemistry” with co-star Jamie Dornan in auditions, the first film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson said: “I felt like their chemistry that was immediate… was the fact that they’re both competitively funny.”
Dornan himself said: “It was pretty standard procedure – they asked a certain amount of actors to make a tape… and then there was a bit of interest again and that was when I met Dakota.
“We did three scenes and nothing got freaky!”
Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker were both big box office successes despite poor reactions from critics.
