Cheating is taboo in most relationships and understandable causes much heartache and anguish.
Spotting the signs can be tricky, but according to a site dedicated to facilitating infidelity for its members the football team your spouse supports could be a clue.
Ashley Madison, a site which helps cheaters meet sexual parters outside their relationship, asked its members to reveal the football team they support.
Liverpool FC was cited as the most popular among the members of the site.
Arsenal was the second most popular, followed by Manchester United.
Top 6 favourite Premier League teams for cheaters
Liverpool – 24 per cent
Arsenal – 19 per cent
Manchester United – 16 per cent
Chelsea – 12 per cent
Swansea – 7 per cent
Manchester City – 7 per cent
Whether your partner is faithful to their football team is also an indicator as to whether they will be faithful to you, according to the site.
According to the data, 64 per cent of respondents were willing to cheat on their favourite team, by supporting a different team.
Isabella Mise, Director of Communications at Ashley Madison said: “The desire to stray doesn’t only exist in a romantic relationship, it can apply to other areas in life too.
“When things aren’t going as planned, it’s sometimes easier for someone to seek alternative means to happiness, and that could certainly relate to sports.”
However, the site did note it was unlikely for your spouse to use watching football as an excuse to get away and cheat.
Seventy five per cent of respondents say they have never used a sporting event as an excuse for meeting with their extramarital partner.
When they say they’re watching the game, they likely are.
However, the most popular excuses cheaters use to meet up with their extra-martial lover have been revealed.
Ashley Madison, a married dating website, asked its users what excuses they most commonly used when cheating on their partners.
Do you recognise any of the common excuses? If so, it might be cause for concern.
