The iPhone X is out now, and Apple have given a helpful guided tour on YouTube
The iPhone X has been out for a week now, with Apple fans at last able to get their hands on the Cupertino’s firm vision of the smartphone’s future.
And for those left wondering how to use the iPhone X’s new features, Apple have published a helpful guided tour video.
In the YouTube clip, the tech giant gave a walkthrough for how to use the new gestures, Face ID and Animojis on the futuristic smartphone.
Express.co.uk has rounded up all you need to know about the new features in the iPhone X, and how to use them.
APPLE iPHONE X – HOW TO USE NEW GESTURES
Apple got rid of the traditional home button so the iPhone X could have a dazzling Retina HD display that takes up almost the entirety of the front.
The functions of the Home Button has now been replaced by a series of gestures users have to perform on the screen.
If you want to access the home screen from any app, all you have to do is swipe up.
And if you’re looking to see all the apps you have open, you need to swipe from the bottom of the iPhone X and then pause.
You can then swipe left and right to move between all the apps you have open on the iPhone X.
If you want to quickly move between apps, you can also swipe left and right at the bottom of the screen to move between all the apps open.
To access the Control Centre, you need to swipe down from the top right hand side of the iPhone X screen.
Once in the Control Centre, press firmly on the different widgets to access 3D touch features.
You can dismiss Control Centre simply by swiping up after you’ve finished using it.
To see all your notifications, like you would on other iPhones, all you need to is swipe down from the top of the screen.
Swipe right to see your widgets or left to quickly access the iPhone X’s awesome camera.
On the notification screen, in the bottom left and right hand corners there are also two shortcuts.
On the bottom-left hand side is a Flashlight button, while on the bottom-right hand side is a Camera icon.
Press those buttons firmly to access those features.
APPLE iPHONE X – WHAT THE BUTTONS DO
The Apple iPhone X has a new way you can access digital assistant Siri.
You can still simply say “Hey Siri” to ask the iPhone’s long-time assistant.
Or, alternatively, you can press and hold the Side button (which is on the right of the device) to access it.
To turn your iPhone X off, you just need to press and hold the Side button – as well as one of the volume buttons.
Then, simply swipe on the section which says “slide to power off” on the screen as you would usually do.
The Apple iPhone X introduces the new Face ID technology
APPLE iPHONE X – HOW DOES FACE ID WORK?
Face ID replaces what Touch ID did on previous iPhones, now allowing you to unlock your iPhone X with your own unique password – your face.
To set it up, when prompted point the iPhone X at your head and simply rotate it around as Apple’s futuristic phone analyses your most unique feature.
Face ID is so advanced that it can even recognise you if you change your hair, grow a beard, where make-up, put on glasses and even in the dark.
Once set up, your iPhone X will be able to recognise you whenever you look at it.
And even just a glance at your iPhone X will enable you to unlock the device.
Once the unlocked icon appears on the iPhone X’s screen, you can simply swipe up from the bottom of the display to get to the home screen.
You can even glance at the screen and swipe up at the same time to quickly unlock your iPhone X.
For an extra level of privacy and security, notifications once they pop up will stay private until you look at your iPhone X.
APPLE iPHONE X – HOW CAN I USE FACE ID ALONGSIDE APPLE PAY?
You can use Face ID to make secure purchases with Apple Pay.
To do so, double click the side button of your iPhone X.
Then glance at the screen to authenticate the purchase and then hold your iPhone X near the terminal to complete your transaction.
All of your face data is stored on your iPhone X and is never backed up in iCloud or on any other servers.
APPLE iPHONE X – HOW TO USE ANIMOJIS?
Animojis takes advantage of Face ID to translate your facial expressions onto a 3D model of one of 12 different emoji characters.
You can channel your real-life expressions through a 3D model of a cat, a chicken or a monkey for instance.
The true depth camera maps over 50 muscles in your face in real-time to capture every expression.
To send an Animoji, start a conversation in messages then choose the Animoji app and choose which one you want to be.
Then hit the red record button and start pulling expressions or even talking. Just press stop once you’re done.
If you change your mind, you can switch characters – and when you’re ready hit send.
You can also make an Animoji sticker. Choose your character, strike a pose, touch and hold the Animoji, then drag it anywhere inside the conversation.
Animojis on the Apple iPhone X are a lot of fun
APPLE iPHONE X – PORTRAIT LIGHTING
With the iPhone X, the front and rear cameras of the high-tech smartphone have portrait lighting.
This also lets you add studio lighting effects to your photos or selfies.
When you’re taking a photo and in Portrait mode, slide to choose between five different lighting effects.
Choose which one you’re after and then take the picture.
If you change your mind, you can even change the lighting effect and the portrait has been taken.
Just go to the portrait you wish to make changes to, and then press Edit.
Then choose the lighting effect you want the picture to have.
