Amazon customers wanting their products to be delivered in a hurry are facing extra costs.
The online retail giant has just changed its terms which means orders under £40 are now getting a £3.99 extra cost.
Until now, Amazon didn’t charge for fast delivery as long as the value of the shopping basket was over £20.
The same-day service, called Amazon Prime Now, is available as part of Amazon Prime memberships in certain parts of the UK.
There are two options for customers with both a one and two-hour delivery window available.
The quick one hour delivery costs £7.99 but it’s the new terms of the two-hour Prime Now service that has got customers angry.
Plenty of Amazon users have taken to social media to vent their frustration at the rise with one saying: “@amazonprimenow What’s with the sneaky £3.99 prime now delivery cost if the order is under £40?
And another added: “Absolutely fuming with @AmazonUK for these cheap tactics! Min spend £40 for free delivery or pay a charge…thats disgraceful. I’m cancelling my membership”
Amazon says that it has lowered the order threshold to £15 for Prime Now giving customers more choice to order lower priced products and it says the changes will mean it can ship increased product selection on everyday items in ultra-fast time.
The news of the changes come as Amazon is about launch its Black Friday sales.
The official date for Black Friday is November 24 but Amazon is launching its sales a week early.
Amazon.co.uk’s Black Friday Deals Store will be open from midnight on Friday November 17 until 23:59 on Sunday November 26.
Amazon is boasting that it will have new ‘Deals of the Day’ every day throughout the period, ranging from Amazon devices, electronics and pet supplies to kitchen and home & garden items.
There will also be thousands of ‘Lightning Deals’ – products available at a discount, in limited quantities, for a short period of time – introduced throughout the sale, with new deals becoming available as often as every five minutes. Amazon Prime members, including customers enjoying a free Amazon Prime 30-day trial, will have an exclusive 30-minute early access period to all Lightning Deals.
“Customers tell us they love getting extra low prices so they can save on their Christmas shopping. This year we have hundreds of small businesses from our Marketplace offering great deals on their unique and creative products, making it even easier to find perfect gifts with our Black Friday sale” said Doug Gurr, Country Manager, Amazon.co.uk.
“We’re making Black Friday more fun than ever by holding our first ever Home of Black Friday pop up in Central London and have just released our TV advert which features our iconic boxes having a sing-a-long to celebrate the festive season.”
Some of the most popular Black Friday deals last year included Fire TV Stick, FIFA 17 and Amazon Echo Dot. Deals available in this year’s Black Friday Sale at Amazon.co.uk will be announced closer to the launch date.
